As well all know there haven`t been a lot of informations about the Krewmen days between 1985 and 1987 when they released three essential Psychobilly records in a row within two years featuring Mad Dog Cole on Vocals. Therefore, I asked people on the psychobilly online forum which had the chance to see the Krewmen live around this period if they could tell us something about it. I also asked for their opinions related to the first three Krewmen records. Let`s go. Thanks to everyone who has replied. Enjoy!

Adventures Of The Krewmen

Sweet Dreams

Into The Tomb

Reactions from Psychobilly Online (P.O.R.K.)

Well, the first 3 Krewmen records are a definite MUST have for anybody who claims to be into Psychobilly. "Adventures of..." is an ABSOLUTE classic and "Sweet Dreams" simply blew me away when it came out. GREAT psychobilly! Mr. Cole is the man with THE voice in psychobilly! I had the pleasure to see the Krewmen twice in 1987 and it was sth to remember indeed! Best of all they were playing my little backwood hometown.

I saw them with MDC just once, on their 87(?) tour with pharaohs. or did they play weeze well if they did I don't remember. but I saw krewmen a few times after MDC had left with various line-ups. As that show was 20 years ago it would be sorta hard to write a review bout it now but I have pics from it at home. and prob some zines that include stuff bout them. I'm pretty sure I mentioned them when I wrote a p-billy report for EB/Metronom, Cologne based Indie mag in the mid/late 80s. for the lps: a MUST have for everyone claiming to be into this music. 'sweet dreams' is the best and in my top 10 of the best p-billy albums of ALL times. 'adventures' has lotsa great songs, just the sound's not as top as on 'dreams' and 'tomb'. 'tomb' has a few let downs but same time some classics.

i saw them once supporting the pharaohs (87) and they were fantastic. i remember everytime i was requested to introduce someone new the sound of psychobilly, i let them listen to "adventures of the krewmen ". IMO the krewmen triology (86-87) are THE representive albums for the authentic or what ever named psychobilly sound IMO. they brought it to perfection. all albums have no weak track at least i havent found one after all these 20 years.

I saw the Krewmen in 1987 (14th June at the Luxor in Cologne, with the Paraohs). I obviously don't remember a lot, but I remember really enjoying it. I bought a t-shirt at the gig, which I still own and sometimes even wear (after 3 weeks of fasting). If I remember correctly they played Shout twice because of constant requests for that song. I also remember Mark Cole looking quite serious with a psycho stare in his eyes, while the other three were mucking about. They were also outside the venue ogling at the girls.

I was listening to them very much in the 80's (until "Power" came out) and their songs were like small horror/sci fi tales movies. i just couldn't had enough. i "watched" those movies again and again. And i still love the "voice" as much as 20 years ago. huge influences on me and my mind.

These three Krewmen records are the best. I listen to it all the time. One of the bands that I like most. The songs are different from the others bands.

Adventures will always be one of the best records for me. I had the chance to see the Krewmen with Mark in Heidelberg and it was my first psychobillyconcert. I didn't even remember that they were only the supportband for the Pharaohs but i have small memory pieces about that gig in my head. Mark's performance was more than just entertaining and i remember good feedback from the crowd! And guess, i'm still listening to this kinda music after all those years.

i think krewmen (firs three albums era) were the band that put out new sounds and definately were what psychobilly should be nowadays. The sounds of krewmen were top; bluesy rythms, fast and slow songs, stop and go, not to mention MDC great unique voice. they give a lot to psychobilly. adventures best of all. i wonder if people sit in his room to listen to krewmen album and think THAT is the sound!! powerful, great band.

Well, they are great albums. Most of all I like "Sweet Dreams". It is the most interesting album for me. The seond, I love "Into the Tomb", because this album turned me into shitty music I'm listening now And the third, is "Adventures" which I listen mainly because of "Wild Dogs" and "Bus Stop".
