Excactly half a year has passed since I saw Mad Dog Cole's great performance at the 2nd Psychomania Rumble in Potsdam. I was really looking forward to see them again. After five hours of driving from Berlin we finally arrived at Osnabruck. The weather was fantastic, warm and sunny - so it was no wonder that we enjoyed our lunch and our first beer outside.
a short stopover near hannover (madman, benny, anni, alex)
At about five o'clock we picked up billy aka tombstone from our hotel and went straight to the location. As you may know the first band started already at 5.30 german time. Mad Dog Cole was scheduled to play just after midnight - so we enjoyed the other bands and ourselves until then. As for me the Caravans did the best job even if they're not that much Neo-Rockabilly anymore like they used to be in their early days. During and after their set we had the chance to chat a little bit to Mark and Jim, who finally arrived at the hall. It seemed that both were a little bit pissed off because of the organisation. They had to leave the location right after their performance to be in time for the return flight from Amsterdam back to England. But all these circumstances couldn't stop them from putting on a fantastic show.
The boys kicked off with the old Krewmen classic Night Shift Blues and they took the audience by storm. Again they played a good mix of old Krewmen and new Mad Dog Cole songs from the Ultra Violence album. There was a good wreckin' goin' on in the pit. The victim of Jim's and Choppy's delight of playing was Mark. First he was hit by Choppys double bass on the back head and shortly afterwards also Jim wanted to knock him out with his guitar cords. But all their efforts were to no avail - and so the Mad Dog continued to delight us with his unique voice. As encore they played Hell Is What I Am Used To.
Even if the sound wasn't the best this time I have to say that I liked this MDC performance the most so far - despite the difficulties the band went through this day. Again it was a pleasure to meet Mark and Jim. We were really fuckin' knackered so that we weren't able to watch the last band - P.O.X. - and decided to go back to the hotel to get some rest and sleep. Thanks to Mark for the dedication of The Wild Dogs Of Zorberon and also a big thanks to the whole band for this great show.
