Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: In hearing your latest new song samples on myspace I am very impressed with the musical content what are some of the bands musical influences?

That question is a massive one! We all draw influence from many sources, but mine are mainly experiences, memories and anything that is going on in my head at that moment.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Tell me a bit about the newest CD?

The "Ultra Violence" album was about a year from initial concept, to recording. We spent 6 days in the studio, and then myself and Jim spent another day re mixing with the engineer. I knew exactly HOW I wanted this sound to come across, and to be honest, I think we achieved just that!

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: How was the feedback from the new songs you posted and the newest CD you have released?

The feedback from the MySpace samples was all positive. I started receiving 100's of emails regarding the upcoming album release, and that motivated us to source a studio. We settled on The Old Blacksmiths Studio in Portsmouth, UK. The owner/engineer, Rich Tamblyn was very receptive to the sound I wanted, and he gave me exactly that.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Does the band plan to play the East Coast USA and include more cities in any upcoming USA tours?

We are inviting offers from all over the USA, and any enquiries can be made to: info@torpedo-booking.com or directly to: mdc@maddogcole.com , We want to get over there to all the fans that have sent requests for our appearance. We are ready, waiting and buzzing for that first show.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Where can our readers purchase merch from You? What merch is available and how many CD releases?

I am at this very moment setting up an online merch shop, and these details will be contained in bulletins, emails, blogs, comments, radio shows etc. Stay tuned for more on this. The first port of call for anybody is MadDogCole.com, At this time, we are obviously looking at CDs, T-Shirts, and a few unusual items available only from the new merch site.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: I have never seen your band before live, What can fans expect?

After all the major festivals we played back in 2007, we have settled into our own, mental sound. The show is a full-on mix of the album, some new material, and of course, the most requested songs I recorded back in the 80's. We are continually progressing into a hopefully unique feel, and the reaction to the live show is always something to tell the grandkids!! Get ready to be rocked!

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: How is the Psychobilly and Rockabilly scene in your parts these days? Are there other bands there that you are into and what are some of the bands names?

I try not to ever comment on other bands, as I inevitably will FORGET to mention somebody, and that's not good! The scene in the UK is kept alive by mainly one promoter, and we have been lucky enough to have worked with him on a few occasions now. (Cheers Mick)

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: How long have you been together and what brought your members together?

I met Jim Jeffries (gtr) back in November 2006. We had a long discussion about what it was that I wanted, and we both kinda started thinking along the same lines. We tried out numerous people in different roles, but the main point of the exercise was, I got the people I WANTED!! The rest is already becoming history online.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Which kinds of non electric instruments do you incorporate into your music?

We are very traditional when it comes to gaining the sound I want from a particular song me and Jim have written. Whilst I love "cleverly used samples" on albums, I don't ever want to detract from the content itself. We use only guitar, drums and double-bass. We are looking more and more at the use of samples, but I am always concerned that while the album version of a particular song may sound great, how does it transfer onto stage if you don't have the facilities to integrate those samples into a live show?

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: How has Rockabilly culture affected the music when it comes to songwriting and lyrics?

I have always been a bass-man at heart, and whenever writing a new song, have to "hear" the bassline in my head. I love the look and sound of a slap bass, so on occasions, have written a whole song around a single bass sound. Rockabilly was always in my blood back in the very early 80's, but I moved on as the Psychobilly sound began to emerge. I have never considered any other music worthy of my interest or focus.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: What influences your band to create darker oriented music?

I personally use good ol' Johnny Cash! You can't get much more dark and gloomy than that. The guy was a genius in my view. I am also a great horror movie fan, so that always helps!

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Does your band have a International fan base?

The band now has a worldwide following. The amount of mail I receive from the USA is staggering sometimes. Europe as well of course, and more recently, Russia and Japan. Our agent is currently working on getting us to all the places we are wanted, so get your requests in NOW.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: How can your fans reach the band?

Anybody wanting direct contact with the band can email directly on: mdc@maddogcole.com or better still, go register at http://www.maddogcole.com and chat to me and Jim semi-live most days. Also MySpace pms etc.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: What are some of your favorite bands to play and/or tour with?

Our Ultra Violence tour back in October 07 was supported by Bonsai Kitten (Germany). They are a great bunch of guys, and I would work with them definitely anytime. Also The Astro Zombies (France/Germany), again, a great bunch of guys to work with.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Not to lock you into a genre but what kind of music do you say your band plays?

I personally always say Psychobilly, but we seem to be gaining a very large following from Goths(?), Vampires(??), Ska and Death Metal lovers. I welcome anyone to our shows, and so long as well all have a mental time, what the hell does it matter what music people are into.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Who does the artwork and layout on your website?

The main site, http://www.MadDogCole.com was created by, and is mainly controlled by Alex and Anni in Germany. They have put in a tremendous amount of work to make the site what it is, and are continually adding mountains of information relating to the band. Fantastic. Thanks guys.

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: When can we expect your band to rock NYC?

As soon as anybody there decides to book us, we will probably be on the next flight out! I would say we have realistically had over 800 emails from the US alone, so the potential turnout for a show is mind-blowing!! COME ON PROMOTERS, be the first the make history..... Book MadDogCole into a venue NOW

Al Santo / Kyonsi Online: Do you have any closing comments?

The USA has always been on the bands' "Wish list", and we/I would like to thank everybody from the states who have contacted us since my return. The show we offer is awesome, and the sooner you guys experience it first hand, the sooner you will see the MadDogCole is back, and greater than ever!

Thanks Mark "Mad Dog" Cole.
